So #GHA lost 2-1 to the #USA. First time we’ve lost to them and they beat us by the same score and in the same style as we had previously beaten them.
First of all, if you’re in London and you’re African make sure you stock up on the necessities early. I arrived at the supermarket to buy Supermalt and this is what I found…
Back to the loss… Ghanaians have wanted to get behind Akwasi Appiah and his young black stars. I even defended his starting 11 to my sister when I saw it. But 30 mins into the match it became clear, the match was missing Kevin Prince Boateng and Michael Essien like a fish misses water. Akwasi Appiah reportedly thought to bring the pair on as a secret weapon when the USA got tired hence the ~60 and ~70 minute substitutions–unfortunately after the youth had done enough damage to Ghana’s chances in the game. What that shows is that he frankly wasn’t making coach decisions based on what he was watching, but a pre-written script (because otherwise he would have realised the need for subs in the first half-hour).
Either way, I shall remain positive #LetsGoalGhana! Ghana’s loss is not down entirely to Akwasi Appiah or our now infamous witchdoctors. Our kit is the problem. Ghana and USA switched colours and with that so did the score.
